英文課程概要
English Course Description |
In recent years, Taiwan has witnessed a wide variety of public health crises that include most notably a series of scandals on food safety involving several leading food production companies. News coverage of these incidents apparently has not only raised the attention of the general public but have them stunned by the loose domestic regulations and surveillances of food production and by the high insecurity of food consumption. However, to some extent, the public scares from food insecurity or other public health crises may be caused in part by the press exaggerating or faulty reporting, which is most likely due to journalists lacking the needed training and knowledge in public health. This course aims to provide students interested in gaining some sense or in pursuing a public health journalism career with a fundamental knowledge in this growing important area particularly when international travel has become so prevalent. This course will cover topics ranging from the basic concept of public health, and types and preventions of contagious and non-contagious diseases concerned by the public health experts, to most fittingly the rights and wrongs in the press reporting of these issues. |
