  教學目標
Course Objectives
Taiwan is moving rapidly from an “aged” to a “super-aged” society. As of early 2025, around 19–20% of the population is already aged 65 and over, with working-age adults (15–64) declining since 2016. Government projections show that by 2025 about one in four Taiwanese will be over 65, and by 2040 about two in five, placing Taiwan firmly in the “super-aged” category. Long-term projections indicate steep declines in both children and working-age adults and a sustained increase in older adults up to at least 2050–2070. These demographic shifts generate multiple risks:Fiscal and social insurance pressure (pension and health insurance sustainability). Labour market shortages and restructuring, especially in manufacturing, care work, services, and high-tech sectors. Exploding demand for long-term care and health services, as documented in recent work linking population ageing to the development of Taiwan’s long-term care industry.Family and community care burdens, particularly on women and “sandwich generation” workers. Spatial and social inequalities, such as rapid ageing in rural areas versus young tech hubs like Hsinchu, where low fertility is partly offset by high-income tech workers but exacerbates housing and class divides. At the same time, ageing opens new opportunities: the growth of the “silver economy,” health innovation, age-friendly urban planning, and new forms of intergenerational collaboration. This course helps college students:Understand Taiwan’s ageing trend in a global context.Analyze concrete risks (economic, social, health, political) and policy responses.Acquire professional knowledge and skills relevant for careers in government, NGOs, health and social services, technology, urban planning, education, and business.Learn how to design practical, age-friendly strategies in their own future workplaces and professions.
