英語口語訓練(二):時事討論是一門為大二以上學生的必修課程,延續英語口語訓練(一),透過辯論與演講的個人經驗,這門課的目的是加強學生的口語能力,辯論與演講議題跟影響台灣及全世界的時事有關。雖然重點是發展學生的口語表達能力,但是老師也會要求學生思考專心聽別人與非言語交際的重要性,而且在一個越來越多元化世界,學生也要學會怎麼跟有不同立場的人有和平討論。關於辯論與演講的議題,為了不讓學生對一個議題產生有偏袒一方的看法,老師會教每一個議題的不同立場,目的是加強學生的同理心。老師會播不同長度及類型的影片,影片的內容有助於發展學生的聽力與獨立思考能力。

English Course Description
English Oral Training (II): Discussing and Dissecting Modernity is a required course for sophomore, and higher-level, students. Following Oral Training (I), this course seeks to improve students’ oral communication skills by having them participate in debates and give speeches on modern issues and news that are affecting Taiwan and even the world. Despite focusing on speaking, students will also be asked to reflect on the importance of listening and body language when communicating with others on issues that can often be quite sensitive in nature. Debate and speech topics will present both sides of a single issue so that students will be able to analyze issues from a less biased perspective and be more empathetic towards those who have different beliefs than their own. Videos of various lengths and formats will be used as instruction material in order to improve listening and critical thinking skills.

人文素養 1.英美文學:以年代與藝文思潮為主軸,簡介作者、作品、時代背景及精神,提供學生所需之西方文化基礎知識。 2.語言學: 由基礎的語言學至進階的句法學,學生可以了解語言學的來源發展及用途。提供學生多元應用語言學的途徑,及學生研究與語言學以及英語教學的進修基礎。

傳播應用能力 1.英語教學。 2.翻譯:培養中英對譯能力。 3.媒體英語文:訓練學生將傳播與現今多媒體或翻譯能力與英語語言學科結合,強化學生英語與傳播應用能力,達到語言為用的目標。
